Baking a difference for Mosaic.

There’s no better way to unite people than over a slice of delicious cake. And when that cake sale is for a good cause, the impact is even sweeter!

At the beginning of May, we held our first fundraising event for our nominated charity of the year, Mosaic – supporting bereaved children. Whilst the country was building up for the coronation celebration, we got the bunting out, paper plates, napkins and cake stands to host a bake sale fit for a king! From French fancies and lemon drizzle cake to chocolate brownies, coffee & walnut and more, we were spoilt for choice.

Thanks to everyone involved, we raised £150 for Mosaic which would pay for three counselling sessions for children/young people and could include Early Bereavement Intervention (these are for shortly after the death of a loved one), or Pre-Bereavement counselling. It would also pay for three children/young people to attend of the activity days.

Let them eat cake for Macmillan.

On Wednesday 22nd September we hosted our very own Coffee Morning to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. This is one of our favourite fundraising events of the year as we have a few budding bakers amongst us, plus we are all partial to cake!

It seems that coinciding the event with the first episode of The Great British Bake Off had rubbed off, as the team tucked into some wonderful homemade treats such as jam tarts, salted caramel victoria sponge, chocolate brownies and mars bar cake to name a few and we’re delighted to say we raised £130.

Over the three years that we’ve been hosting the event, we have raised £500 that we are pleased to hear could go towards a Macmillan Support worker for a week, helping patients, family members and carers manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.

Don’t let your mate become a memory!

This is the message that we’re supporting whilst Richard Middleditch, along with a team of friends complete the challenge of cycling over 1,400km from Lands’ End to John O’Groats in memory of their friend Kev who sadly died of prostate cancer last year.

All funds raised will go to Prostate Cancer UK.

Please take the time to watch this clip and help us share awareness of the importance of getting checked and early detection.

Atlantic Avengers Trust

UFHN are thrilled to announce its partnership as a buddy sponsor for the upcoming venture by the Atlantic Avengers Trust, an awe-inspiring transatlantic rowing challenge in support of charitable causes. The daring expedition is set to begin in November 2018, as the intrepid crew departs from Cadiz in Spain, embarking on a 3,800-mile journey to Antigua.

UFHN’s dedication to supporting the community aligns seamlessly with the ethos of the Atlantic Avengers Trust, making this partnership an ideal match. The Trust’s courageous rowers will navigate the vast and unpredictable Atlantic Ocean, displaying remarkable teamwork, determination and resilience throughout the three-month-long journey.

The Atlantic Avengers Trust’s mission extends beyond the physical feat of rowing across the Atlantic. With a goal to raise awareness and funds for charitable organizations, the Trust has chosen three impactful charities as beneficiaries of this endeavour. As UFHN steps in as a buddy sponsor, its contribution will undoubtedly bolster the fundraising efforts and amplify the positive impact on these organizations.

“This partnership with the Atlantic Avengers Trust resonates deeply with UFHN’s commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need,” said Paul Lines, MD of UFHN. “We are excited to support these brave rowers as they tackle this incredible challenge and simultaneously raise vital funds for charitable causes.”

Members of the public who are interested in supporting the Atlantic Avengers Trust and its mission can learn more about the rowing expedition and contribute to the fundraising efforts by visiting the official website at www.atlanticavengers.com. Every donation, no matter the size, plays a crucial role in enabling these charities to continue their essential work and create positive change in their respective communities.
